I was there a year before the US (Trump)dumped them. Working on a USAID short term assignment. I was VERY impressed with the dedication and enthusiasm of my Afghan colleagues and contacts.

The failures of the top administrators should be condemned because it cost the whole country to be punished severely by our leadership. However, many obstacles slowed everyday work flow that cannot be appreciated in the US. Low productivity due to family issues, illnesses, unreliable, nonexistent, poorly maintained infrastructure; shortages, accidents, roadwork to clear IEDs, constant pressure from internal/external armed conflict and political confusion, lack of financial assistance for entrepreneurs. Many lost opportunities…frustration and distrust.. but with all that, they advanced rapidly with the help of many foreign and afghani npo/ngos and their own dreams for a better future. Now look at the consequences of dropping them. All that expense and effort wasted when they were so close to catching up…I can’t blame Biden when the decision was made by Trump “The Chump” when he made a treaty with the Taliban and set a date to pull out. How stupid. The pullout was set in stone.

Thanks for an uplifting story. I hope folks in AZ vote for Hobbs/Giles and for democracy.

Thank you. Thank you for your service. Thank you for your hard work helping our Afghan allies. Thank you for this post. I'll email it to my friends. I will act as you suggest. (I was helping Mer Festa for a bit. She put so much on the line for our allies.) five years ago I stopped eating for three or four days because I was so anxious, glued to the news, praying and hoping and the worst happened anyway 😭😭😭😭🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
